SGA-C asphalt reinforcement in Malaysia.
SGA-C is the StrataGrid Asphalt-Composite engineered geosynthetic for asphalt pavement reinforcement. High-tenacity polyester geogrid bonded with thermally stable non-woven fabric, coated with proprietary bituminous coating. 50 and 100 kN/m tensile strength in both machine and cross-machine direction. Roll widths to 3.75 m. Mitigates reflective cracking, enhances fatigue life, and reduces rutting. Supplied in Malaysia by Starwall Sdn Bhd (sole STRATA Geosystems Asia distributor for Malaysia, same ownership group as Infraconcrete). Installed by Infraconcrete Construction Sdn Bhd, CIDB G7 + ISO 9001:2015, with federal corridor track record EKVE + ECRL Section 3.
Mitigate reflective cracking + extend fatigue life.
SGA-C is engineered for two principal pavement performance benefits.
| Performance benefit | How it works |
|---|---|
| Mitigates reflective cracking | The geogrid arrests upward propagation of cracks from underlying joints, distressed sub-layers, or pre-existing cracks in the substrate pavement. The strain energy that would propagate the crack is absorbed and redistributed in the reinforcement plane. |
| Enhances fatigue life | High modulus and low elongation improve interlayer shear resistance and bond strength. Industry-leading Fatigue Improvement Factor (FIF) and Rut Improvement Factor (RIF) per STRATA technical data. |
| Reduces rutting | Confines lateral spreading of the upper asphalt layer under heavy axle loading; reduces surface deformation in high-traffic sections. |
| Improves trafficability | During greenfield pavement construction phasing, the reinforced layer supports traffic at lower asphalt thickness with improved fatigue tolerance. |
What you are buying.
| Property | Specification |
|---|---|
| Geogrid base material | High-tenacity polyester yarn, uniform tensile strength MD + CMD |
| Bonded layer | Thermally stable lightweight non-woven fabric, integrally bonded with the geogrid |
| Coating | Proprietary bituminous coating for interlayer bond with overlying and underlying asphalt courses |
| Tensile strength options | 50 kN/m and 100 kN/m, both directions |
| Roll width | Up to 3.75 m (single-roll coverage on most carriageway widths) |
| Reference standards | MoRTH (India), IRC, AASHTO, plus Malaysian JKR, PLUS, LLM project specifications as applicable |
| Application range | Greenfield pavements and rehabilitation pavements (overlay) under flexible pavement design |
Where SGA-C is the right answer.
| Application | Profile |
|---|---|
| Federal expressway pavement overlay maintenance | PLUS, LLM, ELITE, KESAS, NPE, NKVE, MEX, AKLEH, SMART scheduled rehabilitation cycles. Mitigates reflective cracking from underlying distress. |
| Federal road pavement rehabilitation | FT1, FT2, FT3, FT5 and similar JKR-managed federal road maintenance. Structural overlay reinforcement reducing thickness vs unreinforced equivalent. |
| State road maintenance | State-level road authority programmes. Same reinforcement function at lower-budget scale. |
| Urban arterial high-traffic sections | City council urban arterials with heavy commercial traffic and recurring rutting. SGA-C reduces rutting and surface deformation. |
| Industrial pavement and port facilities | Container terminals, oil tank farm hardstanding, heavy-axle industrial yards. Tolerates concentrated and repetitive loading. |
| Airport apron and taxiway resurfacing | Reinforcement of bituminous overlay on existing concrete or asphalt apron pavement. |
| Greenfield pavement on weak subgrade | Combined with sub-grade improvement plus base reinforcement, SGA-C reinforces the upper asphalt course against fatigue. |
Eight-step site sequence.
- Pavement preparation. Mill or pre-clean per substrate condition. Address localised distress (potholes, deep cracks, settlement) per project specification before SGA-C placement.
- Tack coat application. Apply tack coat at design rate (typically 0.4 to 0.7 kg per square metre for SGA-C with bituminous coating). The proprietary coating bonds with the tack coat to achieve interlayer shear strength.
- Roll placement. Lay in longitudinal direction of traffic. Maintain alignment.
- Overlaps. Longitudinal overlap typically 100-150 mm per project specification; transverse overlap at roll ends per specification.
- Tension and alignment. Maintain straight rolls. Correct any wrinkling or creasing before paving.
- Anchorage. Edges and joints anchored per detail.
- Asphalt overlay placement. Direct overlay at typical paving temperatures (140-160 degrees C); the bituminous coating activates the bond on contact.
- Compaction and opening. Standard asphalt compaction practice. Cool and open to traffic per project specification.
Plant and crew. Standard asphalt paving plant. Standard paving crew with brief STRATA installation orientation. Production rate compatible with standard pavement programme.
Three routes.
